THE ERA OF BREAST IMPLANTS MAY COME TO A CLOSE
With this information, it’s clear that women are leaning more towards a natural look instead of looking overdone. Breast implants have been in the top 5 for the last decade, now we’re seeing a wave of women removing them looking for smaller, more natural-appearing breasts. Women choose to either downsize or remove them altogether and opting for a breast lift.
Studies of the link between some breast implants and certain forms of cancer are still ongoing. In 2019, the FDA requested a voluntary recall of Biocell textured implants due to a connection between patient reports and implant-related illnesses and side effects. While these cases are rare, they do happen. If you are a recipient of textured breast implants especially, examine yourself and consult a doctor immediately if lumps or abnormal growths occur.
Nevertheless, be sure to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon before making any decisions about plastic surgery.

PERFECTING THE POUT
2020 is all about mixing wellness and beauty, and perfectly plump lips may never go out of style. To give a bit of perspective, lip injections are typically performed with hyaluronic acid-based fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane. New trends in plastic surgery to perfect the pout include procedures such as a lip flip or a lip lift.
- A Lip Flip is a procedure that utilizes the mastery of Botox to achieve a more natural look. Botox works to flip out the lip line, gently rolling the upper lip outward, creating the appearance of a full, sexy pout. Keep in mind that Botox does not create the same result as fillers because fillers make the lip appear larger by literally making it larger. Botox simply relaxes the muscles around the mouth, rolls the lip outward, and creates the illusion of a bigger lip without any added volume.
- A Lip Lift procedure is designed to raise the edges of the lips and define the cupid’s bow, making the mouth look more prominent. It shortens the space between the top of the lip and the bottom of the nose to fit the face. This procedure is permanent and can be done in under an hour. While more invasive than a lip flip, it can be done in under an hour and still provides a more natural look to fuller, plump lips.
Both fillers and injectables continue to rise in the ranks for trends in plastic surgery, especially since new advancements are making longer-lasting injectables, lasting three to four years instead of just one to two.
MORE FOCUS ON THE JAWLINE
Due to selfies and social media, people are becoming hyperaware of every angle of themselves. And due to western beauty trends, a distinct jawline is considered to be beautiful (Rhianna and Angelina Jolie, for example). Many patients are requesting facial fillers such as Radiesse to fill out the back of their jaw and create the desired angle, as well as visually separate the jaw from the neck. There is little to no downtime, however, you may experience soreness around the injection site the day of the procedure.
On the other hand, if you are looking to take away the square look to your jaw, Botox can be used to soften the look of the lower face. In addition to this, if you suffer from a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) or grinding your teeth, it can be used to weaken the masseter muscle and reduce pain in as little as one to two weeks.
Patients are also wanting to improve the shape of their chins for the exact same reasons as their jawline. The filler is injected along the bone to fill it out, most commonly Juvederm due to its lifting and structuring qualities.

ADVANCEMENTS IN BODY CONTOURING
Liposuction and tummy tucks are among the most popular body contouring procedures, however, more non-invasive procedures seem to be rising to the top. Procedures such as temperature-based fat reduction, radiofrequency energy, even non-invasive muscle enhancement options are proving better, more natural results with little to no downtime. Often times these practices feel more like a spa day.
Radiofrequency waves work by producing heat in the skin’s deeper layers, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in faster cell turnover. The results are impressive, to say the least, working to treat both superficially as well as within the deep tissue to improve skin elasticity, toning, and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
