From Consult to Confident
Considering an elective plastic surgery procedure is a big decision to make. In order to answer any remaining questions from your research, it’s important to meet with, and get to know, your surgeon. She will evaluate your wants + needs to better understand your goals for plastic surgery Chandler.
What to expect in your consultation
The consultation is arguably the most critical component of the procedure process. Not only does it allow us to understand your needs, but to inform and educate each patient on the options available before making the final decision to undergo plastic surgery. Your consultation should cover three important questions for yourself:
- Is plastic surgery right for me?
- If so, which procedure(s) are suitable?
- Which surgeon do I want to perform my procedure(s)?
Consider writing down all the questions you may have before arriving at your consultation appointment in order to get all the information you need. Additionally, consider taking notes to remember every detail discussed in the consultation.
The plastic surgeon you are speaking with during your consultation will be able to explain
- The process of your procedure
- The anesthetic to be used
- Any possible risks and complications of the surgery, their rates of occurrence, and how they are handled
- How long the expected recovery time will be after surgery
- Breakdown of costs and available financing options
- Insurance considerations
At the end of your consultation, you should feel confident you have all the information needed to decide which surgery is right for you, whether or not to move forward with the procedure, and whether the surgeon is right for you.
- A thorough examination of their medical background. Your medical team will review any health issues that run in your immediate family as well as a list of your current prescriptions, including vitamins, supplements, and any recreational drugs, during your initial appointment. To protect your safety, it’s critical that your medical team has a complete picture.
- The opportunity to ask questions. You have the ideal chance during your appointment to address all of your worries about patient safety, preparation, potential hazards, downtime, and aftercare. You may also find out more about your surgeon’s credentials at this time. Ask your prospective doctor if they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery as a starting point. Board-certified plastic surgeons have successfully finished comprehensive formal surgical training,
- A discussion of your objectives and possibilities. You will discuss your desired changes to your face or body with your prospective surgeon, as well as your motivations. Your physician will also inquire about your objectives and anticipations. Your possible surgeon will discuss which treatments or procedures might help you attain the appearance you want, what type of outcomes you can anticipate, and what’s involved in the therapy or surgery, all while keeping in mind your goals. Along with discussing dangers and potential consequences, your medical team will also talk about expenses and funding.
- An analysis of your problem areas. Your surgeon will ask you to change into a patient gown while they leave the room if your problem regions are your breasts or body. At this point, your surgeon could take certain measures. With your permission, the surgeon could take “before” pictures during this session if necessary.
- Choose further actions. Ready to set up your appointment? Great! The plastic surgery team will work with you to arrange a surgery date and may want to schedule a pre-surgery appointment. It’s acceptable if you’re not quite ready to schedule. You should weigh all of your alternatives, the prices, the advantages and disadvantages, and the recuperation process before investing in cosmetic surgery.
Recovery following cosmetic surgery
- Following your procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area and watched carefully until you are alert enough to return to the ward. Patients wake up from sleep at different rates, therefore visitors should be requested to contact the recovery room to verify whether they are awake.
- A certain degree of discomfort is unavoidable after surgery, but there are extremely effective techniques to manage it after plastic surgery, most of them entail taking analgesics, or pain killing medications. After surgery, you’ll be astonished at how rapidly the pain subsides because nausea and vomiting are well managed by pain medication.
- After surgery, you can discover a collection of numerous tubes and lines when you wake up. According to your plastic surgery technique, they will vary, but in general, everyone will awaken with a tiny, transparent breathing mask on. This oxygen mask helps your lungs by giving them a high quantity of oxygen. Another familiar sight is an intravenous line connected to a long, transparent tube that has a bag of fluid at the end. Less frequently, it could be essential to install surgical drains at the site of the procedure to remove any extra fluid that collects there after surgery. A catheter may be used to eliminate urine that is resting inside the bladder. After major surgery, you will often be placed with a catheter, allowing you to recover in bed and allowing us to precisely track the volume of urine the kidneys produce.
- Generally speaking, we work to get patients out of bed and moving after plastic surgery. You’ll be up and about sooner than you think because if we get you back to normal fast, the danger of problems is lowered.
